Travelling
to Windsor
Windsor is very easy to get to from London (a distance of 22 miles
/ 35 km) and the surrounding area. It is fortunate enough to have
two railway stations (both centrally located), to be located just
off Junction 6 of the M4 motorway, and to be within 15 minutes drive
of Heathrow Airport.
Why not hire a car?
There
is no need to drive within the town itself: everything of interest
can be reached by foot, and indeed it would be unwise to try to drive
around the town centre. For information on guided tour by bus, see
the Windsor Town Centre page.
Windsor
town centre operates a Shopmobility scheme. This
is a loan of wheelchairs and scooters for anyone who has difficulty
in walking. The scheme operates from 10 am to 5 pm every day except
Sundays, from a portakabin near Windsor Library. It is worth noting
that the area immediately around the Castle does have some quite steep
hills. Please note that there is a charge for this service. For information,
telephone 01753 622330. For
information on disabled access, please contact the Royal
Windsor Information Centre.
